Flare Studio are delighted to announce a new collaboration between Mars Inc. – its inaugural client partner - and one of the world’s leading film schools, the National Film and Television School (NFTS) in Beaconsfield (30 mins from London).
Mars Inc., whose leading brands include among others - Snickers, Pedigree, M&M’s, Sheba, Orbit, Cesar, Five, Uncle Ben’s, is sponsoring two successful applicants to the NFTS as part of this unique initiative through Flare Studio’s programme to help discover and develop new film-making talent.
The Mars-NFTS scholarship will be awarded to two successful applicants to the two-year MA Directing course at the school, starting January 2018.
The two successful applicants will receive their tuition fees for the 2 year Directing Fiction MA course.
Eligibility for this initiative is based on being accepted onto the course as part of the school’s standard entry requirements. The application window for the school is currently now open and closes on 4th May 2017.
Once accepted onto the course, candidates applying for the scholarship will be required to fulfil a brief, assigned by one of the leading Mars brands, to make a short piece of branded content. Those applying may also be eligible for a grant, based on key equality and diversity criteria, to help make their film.
The two candidates awarded the scholarship will be selected by a panel of judges from the NFTS, Mars and Flare Studio. The winning films will be showcased on Flare Studio and as part of the Mars brand’s online campaign.
If you are considering applying for the school and think this is something you would like to participate in, visit www.nfts.co.uk/directingfiction for more information.
Please do not submit anything through Flare Studio at this point. This is a call to action only. You need to apply directly to the NFTS.
The Mars brief phase for successful applicants to win tuition fees will be launched later in the year.

ABOUT THE NATIONAL FILM AND TELEVISION SCHOOL (NFTS)
The NFTS is one of the world's leading film, games and television schools. It has been cited by some media as one of the top five film schools globally and by one as the No.1 international film school. In 1967, the government recommended the creation of a national film school for the UK and in 1971 the National Film School opened its doors for the first time focusing on postgraduate education. In the 1980s, the school officially changed its name to the National Film and Television School to incorporate the demand for courses in television production and has since added games to its remit.
NFTS prides itself on producing world-class, award-winning industry leaders. It has more Student Academy Awards (Foreign Category) than any other film school. NFTS students and graduates also regularly win BAFTAs and have won the short film category for the last three years. Other prestigious accolades include the Grierson Award for Best Student Documentary, which NFTS students have won for the last three years as well as multiple Royal Television Society student awards and Annecy Animation Awards. NFTS graduates have gone on to win seven Oscars and 100 BAFTAs with alumni including cinematographer, Roger Deakins (12 times Oscar nominee); BAFTA winning director, David Yates, (best known for directing the Harry Potter films); Oscar winning animator Nick Park (creator of Wallace & Gromit) and Oscar winning composer Dario Marianelli among others.
